Pune: In a shocking road rage incident on Sinhgad Road, a husband and wife were brutally attacked with a machete on Friday evening. The victims, Ravishankar Patale and his wife Nisha Patale, sustained injuries, with Ravishankar suffering a severe head wound.
Police have arrested three suspects—Mohan Gore (20) of Hingane Khurd, Karan Barge (19) of Koradwasti, and Sahil Pathan (19) of Sainagar—while two minors have also been detained for their involvement in the attack.
According to police reports, the couple was on their way home to Dhayari when they stopped near the Sinhgad Road regional office. While they were sitting by the roadside, a group of four to five individuals arrived, and one of them began urinating in public. Ravishankar objected, pointing out the presence of women, which enraged the group.
In retaliation, they first assaulted Nisha Patale before attacking Ravishankar Patale with a koyta, causing a deep head injury. The assailants then fled the scene.
Police investigations revealed that just 15 minutes before the attack, the accused had brandished weapons and threatened locals in Rajiv Gandhi Vasahat, Vithalwadi, spreading panic in the area.
Authorities swiftly apprehended the suspects, and two separate cases have been registered against them.
In the Vithalwadi incident, they have been charged under BNS sections 351(3), 189(1), (2)(4), 190, and 191(2) along with section 4(25) of the Arms Act.
In the Sinhgad Road attack, they face attempted murder charges, and further investigations are underway.
Police have assured strict action against those involved, emphasizing the need for public safety and stricter measures to curb such violent incidents.
