Pune: Finding unexpected and disturbing items in food can be a nightmare for consumers. Over the years, several shocking incidents have emerged, including a centipede in ice cream, a snake in a college cafeteria meal, a mouse in chocolate syrup, and even a human finger in ice cream. A similar case has now surfaced in Pune.
The Airport Police have registered a case against a cafe owner in Lohegaon after a customer allegedly found a dead mouse in a chocolate shake ordered online. The incident took place on Friday night when two students placed an order through a food delivery app.
According to police reports, the students had ordered the shacke to celebrate Valentine’s Day. A 21-year-old student consumed a portion of the drink and later discovered a dead mouse at the bottom of the container. Shocked, he immediately rushed to a hospital. Fortunately, doctors confirmed that he was not in danger.
When confronted, the cafe owner reportedly denied the allegations. However, the police took the complaint seriously and summoned the owner to the police station, where he was served a notice to cooperate with the investigation. Authorities suspect the mouse might have accidentally fallen into a blender and gone unnoticed by the cafe staff before being packaged.
Senior Inspector Ajay Sankeshwari of the Airport Police stated that the victim, a postgraduate management student also working at a private company, had ordered the shake through a friend. He consumed the drink after reaching his home in Lohegaon, only to make the shocking discovery.
The cafe owner now faces legal action for endangering public safety, and further investigations are underway.
