Pune: In a deeply disturbing incident, a 73-year-old man was abducted from a farm in Uttam Nagar, robbed of gold ornaments, and later brutally murdered. The case has sent shockwaves through the Bibvewadi and Sangrun areas.
The victim, Narayan alias Nana Mankar, a resident of Lokesh Society in Bibwewadi, was lured by one of the accused under the pretext of agricultural work and taken to their native village. He was later found murdered, bearing severe injuries to his neck, throat, and face inflicted by sharp weapons.
The incident came to light when the victim’s son, Niraj Narayan Mankar (43), filed a formal complaint with the police. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Satish Vitthal Khadke (35), a resident of Sangrun, and four to five unidentified accomplices. The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those pertaining to abduction, robbery, and murder.
According to police reports, on April 12, Narayan Mankar was taken from his residence in Bibvewadi by the accused, who claimed they needed his help with farm-related work in Sangrun, located in Haveli Taluka. However, once they reached the remote area, the situation turned violent. The group allegedly attacked Mankar with sharp weapons, resulting in his death, and then made off with his gold chain and rings weighing approximately 19 tolas.
As of now, no arrests have been made. Senior Police Inspector Mohan Khandare of Uttam Nagar Police Station is leading the investigation. The motive behind the brutal crime and the full identity of all individuals involved are still under probe.
The incident has raised concerns about safety in semi-rural and fringe areas, where criminal elements are reportedly using deceitful means to target vulnerable individuals. Police have assured that all efforts are being made to track down the accused and bring them to justice.
