Pune: In a shocking case of deception, an elderly woman was robbed of gold jewelry worth ₹6.24 lakh by miscreants impersonating police officers in the Warje area of Pune. The incident took place on Tuesday evening, June 10, and a case has since been registered at the Warje Malwadi Police Station.
The victim, Suhasini Kulkarni (61), a resident of Warje, had set out for temple darshan when she was approached near the gate of Avismara Hall around 5:30 PM. Two unidentified individuals stopped her, falsely claiming to be police officers.
According to the police, the accused warned her that a murder had occurred in the area and instructed her to remove all jewelry and place it in her bag for safety. Trusting them, the woman complied and removed her ornaments. The impersonators then fled the scene with the bag containing the gold jewelry.
Upon realizing she had been duped, Kulkarni immediately approached the Warje Malwadi Police Station and filed a complaint. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Sub-Inspector Chavan is leading the investigation.
The police have appealed to the public to remain cautious and verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an official, especially in such situations.
