Pune : A shocking incident of violence unfolded in the Tupewasti area of Haveli taluka on Monday (February 10) when a tenant, enraged over the disconnection of electricity due to unpaid bills, attacked a Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) employee with an iron pipe. The injured employee was hospitalized, and a criminal case has been registered against the accused.
The altercation occurred during a routine inspection by MSEDCL officials in the Sainagar area of Tupewasti. Senior Technician Nilesh Chakane and Electric Assistant Shahabaz Sheikh were checking electricity connections that had been disconnected due to unpaid bills. During the inspection, they discovered that a power connection at a house owned by Prakash Pardeshi had been illegally restored despite being disconnected on January 23 for non-payment.
As the officials prepared to take further action, Kamlesh Uttam Londhe, a tenant residing in the house, confronted them aggressively. Londhe allegedly hurled abuses at the officials and questioned their authority to disconnect the power supply. In a fit of rage, he attacked Senior Technician Nilesh Chakane with an iron pipe, injuring him on the head. Chakane was rushed to a hospital for treatment, while Londhe fled the scene.
Following a complaint filed by MSEDCL, the Uruli Kanchan Police Station registered a case against Kamlesh Londhe under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
