Pune: A startling case has emerged involving an employee from the Khadki Ammunition Factory, who was caught red-handed attempting to smuggle cartridges out of the facility. Acting on intelligence inputs, security agencies, in coordination with the Khadki Police, apprehended the suspect and recovered 22 cartridges from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Ganesh Vasantrao Borude (39), a resident of Kalpataru Society, Kharadi Road, Chandan Nagar. Following the incident, Junior Engineer Jayendra Kasturi from the factory filed a formal complaint at Khadki Police Station.
According to sources, intelligence officials received a tip-off about unauthorized removal of ammunition from the Khadki Ammunition Factory. Based on this information, security personnel alerted factory authorities and launched a strategic operation.
Officers from the Khadki Police Station and military intelligence unit disguised themselves and set up surveillance near Gate No. 12 of the factory. At approximately 5:30 PM on Friday, the suspect, Ganesh Borude, attempted to leave the premises. The officers promptly detained him and conducted a search, uncovering 22 cartridges hidden inside his two-wheeler’s storage compartment.
A case has been registered against Ganesh Borude under the Indian Penal Code, the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act. Police Sub-Inspector Digvijay Chougale is currently overseeing the investigation.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to smuggling ammunition. Investigators are now probing whether he had engaged in similar activities previously and if he had any accomplices. Authorities are also examining whether the stolen cartridges were intended for illegal trade. The case remains under active investigation.
