Pune: A case has been registered against a local businessman in Pune for allegedly selling fake Bakarwadi using the name and branding of the renowned ‘Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale’. The incident has raised concerns among loyal customers and food lovers in the city.
According to the complaint filed by Chitale Bandhu, the accused was selling Bakarwadi under the name ‘Chitale Sweet Home’, misleading consumers into believing it was the original product. The packaging used the Chitale name, logo, and design, which led to brand impersonation and potential consumer fraud.
Chitale Bandhu is a trusted brand known across Maharashtra and India for its quality sweets and snacks, particularly its iconic Bakarwadi. The use of their brand identity by another vendor not only misleads customers but also damages the reputation of the original company.
Police have initiated an investigation and have booked the accused under sections related to intellectual property rights violations, cheating, and misuse of branding. Authorities are also examining the stock of fake products being sold under the counterfeit label.
The Chitale Group has urged consumers to be cautious while purchasing their products and to ensure they buy only from authorized outlets. The police have assured strict action against the culprits to protect the brand’s legacy and customer trust.
This incident highlights the growing need for vigilance in the food industry and the importance of protecting established brands from such fraudulent activities.
