Pune: On Tuesday morning, Maharashtra police received a bomb threat targeting key locations in Pune, including Pune Railway Station, Yerwada, and Bhosari. The alert came through a call made around 9:15 AM to the emergency helpline 112, prompting swift action by the authorities.
Following the warning, the Pune Police Control Room immediately notified the Bund Garden Police Station. The information was then passed on to the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), setting off a large-scale security response. Teams from Pune City Police, GRP, RPF, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), and canine units were dispatched to thoroughly inspect the reported sites.
Despite extensive searches at all three locations, officials found no suspicious objects. Authorities confirmed the threat was a false alarm but continue to investigate the source of the call and work to identify the person responsible.
This incident occurred shortly after a similar hoax in Mumbai on May 19, where a man named Rajeev Singh reported overhearing a conversation about bombing the city near JJ Marg. In response, Mumbai Police and bomb squads secured the sensitive areas and carried out comprehensive searches.
As in Pune, no explosives were detected in Mumbai. The Mumbai threat was also deemed a hoax, and legal proceedings have been initiated against Rajeev Singh for causing public alarm and misusing emergency services.
In Pune, police have assured the public that all targeted locations were carefully examined and no danger was found. Security measures remain heightened as a precautionary step, while ongoing efforts to track down the anonymous caller continue. Authorities remain committed to uncovering the motives behind these false threats and ensuring accountability.
