Pimpri Chinchwad: A sudden power outage early Monday morning left residents of Dighi reeling, as a fire near Pathan Baba Dargah on Alandi Road destroyed eight underground power cables. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM and severely impacted electricity supply to Adarsh Nagar and Bharat Mata Nagar areas.
According to officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the blaze originated from garbage that had accumulated near the dargah. The fire spread rapidly and engulfed the nearby power infrastructure, resulting in the complete destruction of eight cables. This led to the breakdown of both the Dighi and VSNL feeders, cutting off power supply to several localities.
“A total of eight cables were damaged due to the fire caused by burning waste. The power supply was completely disrupted as a result,” an MSEDCL spokesperson confirmed.
MSEDCL teams were immediately deployed to the site and are working round-the-clock to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity. Authorities have described the repair operation as being conducted on a “war footing.”
The outage has caused significant inconvenience for residents, particularly small business owners, shopkeepers, and homemakers who rely on uninterrupted power for their daily tasks. Many reported difficulty in managing essential activities such as cooking, refrigeration, and business operations.
Officials have urged citizens to avoid dumping garbage near power installations to prevent such incidents in the future. An official statement regarding the estimated time for restoration is awaited.
