Pune: In a proactive step towards emergency preparedness, the Civil Defence Force under the Department of Home (Special), Pune City, conducted a comprehensive fire safety and first aid demonstration at Sahyadri Hospital in Shastrinagar, Yerwada.
The mock drill included a simulated fire emergency during which doctors, nurses, and hospital staff were safely evacuated to secure zones. The exercise aimed to train hospital personnel in real-time crisis response and strengthen coordination during emergencies.
The demonstration involved 11 Civil Defence volunteers, 30 Home Guard personnel, and the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Yerwada Fire Department team, led by Fire Officer Mr. Pawar. Various firefighting techniques were displayed using multiple types of fire nozzles to showcase effective fire containment methods.
Chief Warden George Swami of the Civil Defence Force Pune City served as the Incident Commander during the drill. Volunteer Officer Archana Waghmare addressed hospital patients and their families, urging them to stay calm, not believe in or spread rumours, and to follow safety protocols.
Senior Assistant Deputy Controller Arjun Kurhade and his team guided staff on protective measures to be taken during disasters. The entire drill was meticulously planned and overseen by Deputy Controller Lt. Col. (Retd.) Prashant Chatur and Chief Warden George Swami.
The initiative was praised for enhancing preparedness among medical personnel and boosting public awareness on fire safety and disaster management.
