A high-voltage drama unfolded at the popular Elrow Pub in Kalyani Nagar late Thursday night when the son of a former corporator from Yerwada created a massive ruckus, allegedly over a dispute involving girls. The incident, which involved property damage and physical altercations, was reportedly settled quietly without a formal police complaint. However, Yerwada Police have now sealed the pub following public outrage and a history of repeated violations by the establishment.
The Elrow Pub, located above the D-Mart complex in Kalyani Nagar, has long been under scrutiny for operating under different names and allegedly staying open until late hours, often bypassing noise and liquor regulations. Residents have filed multiple complaints in the past with the police, the District Collector, and the State Excise Department. Despite prior sealing actions, the pub has repeatedly reopened, often under different ownership names.
According to sources, a verbal argument between two groups of youths escalated around midnight on Thursday (April 17), allegedly due to a dispute involving women. The situation intensified when the son of a former Yerwada corporator was called to the scene. He reportedly entered the pub with a group and vandalized property, leading to a major scuffle. The pub staff and bouncers retaliated and allegedly assaulted the former corporator’s son. Glass bottles were shattered, and chaos ensued.
The Yerwada Police received information about the incident and reached the location promptly. However, in a twist, sources say a prominent political leader’s son from Pimpri-Chinchwad intervened at Yerwada Police Station later that night, allegedly to mediate and settle the matter. Neither side filed an official complaint, and the incident remained undocumented until local residents began raising concerns the following day.
The episode sparked widespread discussion in Yerwada and Kalyani Nagar on Friday, with residents questioning how such a controversial pub continues to function despite repeated legal actions. A local gangster is rumored to have played a role in brokering peace between the two parties.
Yerwada Police Senior Inspector Ravindra Shelke confirmed the incident and stated, “We responded to a late-night disturbance at the pub. Although no formal complaint has been received, the establishment has been sealed as a preventive measure.”
Residents are now demanding a permanent shutdown of the pub, citing continuous public nuisance and political patronage that allegedly shields such businesses from accountability. The incident has once again highlighted the nexus between politics, nightlife businesses, and law enforcement in Pune’s upscale neighborhoods.
