Pune: In a joint operation carried out by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Pune Rural and Ranjangaon Police, four Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Karegaon village in Shirur taluka for illegally staying in India without valid documents. The operation was conducted following a confidential tip-off received by Constable Mosin Sheikh of the ATS unit.
According to police sources, the four individuals had crossed into India through unauthorized routes, bypassing immigration checks, and had been residing in Karegaon village for over two years. During this time, they were found to have obtained fake Aadhaar cards in an attempt to pass off as Indian citizens.
The arrested men have been identified as Kamarol Ramzan Sheikh (32) from Khulna, Aklas Majed Sheikh (39) from Gopalganj, Mohammad Abdullah Malik (35), and Jahid Abubakar Sheikh (30), both from Narail district in Bangladesh. All of them were living in Shirur without any legal documents or travel permits, in clear violation of Indian immigration laws.
The raid was conducted late evening on July 11, and the arrests were officially made early morning on July 12 at around 5:00 AM. A case has been registered against them at Ranjangaon Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Passport Act, and the Foreigners Act. Charges include illegal entry into the country, possession of forged documents, and unauthorized stay.
The arrested individuals were produced before the court the same day, and the court has remanded them to police custody for further investigation. Officials are now probing whether these individuals are part of a larger network involved in human trafficking or other illegal activities.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, Additional SP Ramesh Chopde, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dhole. The raid team included Inspector Mahadev Waghmode from Ranjangaon Police Station, Assistant Police Inspector Prakash Pawar from ATS, PSI Avinash Thorat, ASIs Vishal Gawhane and Dattatray Shinde, along with a team of head constables and constables.
Authorities have confirmed that further inquiries are underway, and the police are keeping a close watch for other possible cases of illegal immigration in the region.
