Pune: Gaurav Ahuja, the main accused in the public obscenity case, has been remanded to one-day police custody. Ahuja had surrendered before the Karad police.
He was presented before the court today, along with his friend, who was arrested last night.
The incident took place in Pune’s Yerwada area, where, under the influence of alcohol, Ahuja allegedly parked his BMW car in the middle of the road and urinated. When confronted, he reportedly engaged in obscene behavior. Pune police took the two individuals into custody yesterday.
During the court proceedings, the police requested seven-day custody for Ahuja, but the court granted only one day.
Advocate Pushkar Durge, representing co-accused Bhagyash Oswal, argued that a viral video clip showed one person stepping out of the vehicle, but his client remained inside. Oswal neither got out of the car nor was driving it. He voluntarily appeared before the police. Durge questioned why Oswal was charged merely for sitting inside the car and announced plans to file a bail plea.
Meanwhile, Ahuja’s lawyer, Surendra Apune, argued that the police acted under media and political pressure without issuing prior notice. He contended that Section 65 was wrongly applied since no chemical report was available, nor was any banned substance seized. Apune also stated that the accused did not flee but voluntarily surrendered before the Karad police.
