Pune: A joyous baby shower function turned into a distressing memory for a Mumbai-based woman after her gold jewellery worth ₹10.80 lakh was allegedly stolen during the event held at a hall on Sinhagad Road. The incident came to light after the woman filed a complaint with Uttamnagar police against unidentified thieves.
According to the police, the complainant had travelled from Mumbai to Pune to attend her niece’s baby shower ceremony, which took place on April 20 at a private hall. After the function, she returned to her younger sister’s residence at Irk Residency Society in Shivne.
Later that evening, while checking her belongings, the woman discovered that a pouch containing her gold ornaments had gone missing from her bag. Shocked by the theft, she returned to Mumbai without immediately informing the police. However, upon regaining composure, she came back to Pune and formally lodged a complaint.
The Uttamnagar police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and have begun investigating the matter. Assistant Police Inspector Amrita Chavare is leading the probe.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the hall and surrounding areas in an effort to identify the suspect and recover the stolen jewellery.
