Pune: A grass fire in a field at Man (Mulshi) led to a disruption in power supply after the Maharashtra State Transmission Company’s 220 kV Pirangut-Hinjewadi high-voltage transmission line tripped on Friday evening. The first outage occurred at 5:29 PM, leaving around 66,000 domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers, including 200 IT firms in Hinjewadi, Wakad, Maan, Marunji, Kasarsai, and nearby areas, without electricity for 46 minutes.
Later, at 7 PM, the same transmission line experienced another fault, leading to a second power outage across the affected region. Officials from Maharashtra State Transmission Company immediately began emergency restoration work to bring back stability to the supply network.
The fire beneath the transmission line caused a power shortfall of 152 MW, impacting the Pimpri and Mulshi divisions of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). Although power was restored promptly, the repeated tripping prolonged the disruption. Efforts are ongoing to ensure stability and prevent further outages.
