Pune: A massive traffic snarl paralyzed the Mumbai-Pune Expressway today as thousands of holiday-goers took to the road for Labour Day, which also marks the start of school summer vacations.
The heaviest congestion has been reported in the stretch between Khandala Ghat and Khopoli, where vehicles are inching forward over an 8 to 10-kilometer stretch. What is typically a quick journey is now stretching to over an hour due to the gridlock.
With government and semi-government offices closed for the day, many families seized the opportunity to head toward popular getaway destinations. This sudden surge in traffic volume has overwhelmed the expressway, leading to long delays.
Commuters caught in the jam expressed frustration over the extended travel times and the disruption to their holiday plans.
