Pune: City faced intense traffic congestion and widespread waterlogging on Tuesday following heavy rainfall, leaving many residents stranded for hours without access to water or restroom facilities. Areas such as Hinjawadi and Sinhagad Road were particularly affected, with the recently inaugurated Sinhagad Road Flyover also experiencing significant traffic build-up. Additionally, road collapses were reported on Warje and Satara Road.
In Kondhwa, vehicles were swept away by strong water currents, and a wall collapse added to the chaos. Hoardings came down in Wagholi and Dhanori, while Lohegaon and Viman Nagar also saw serious waterlogging. This time, Karve Road and Kothrud faced extensive flooding, prompting concerns about the effectiveness of the pre-monsoon preparations carried out by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
The city also witnessed around 30 incidents of fallen trees, with nearly all localities including Kothrud, Katraj, Dhayari, Hinjawadi, Baner, and Viman Nagar grappling with water accumulation and resulting traffic snarls.
In a heartbreaking event on Tuesday night, a 10-year-old boy lost his life after being electrocuted in the Warje area amid the downpour. Mayank, also known as Dadu Pradeep Adagale, suffered a fatal electric shock upon touching an electric pole outside his home during the ongoing heavy rains. The incident has left the community shaken as the city continues to deal with the impact of the severe weather.
