In response to frequent accidents and severe traffic congestion, Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende has enforced a ban on heavy vehicles along a critical stretch of the Mumbai-Bengaluru bypass. The ban will affect vehicles between Bhumkar Chowk underpass and Shri Control Chowk in Narhe village, and will be in place during peak hours: from 7 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 9 pm.
The Narhe and Dhayari areas, now included within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, have seen rapid growth, with a rising number of educational institutions and private companies contributing to the area’s increasing traffic density. In light of these developments and the growing number of accidents, the new restriction aims to improve safety and alleviate congestion.
The road between Bhumkar Chowk and Shri Control Chowk is notably narrow, and heavy vehicles often exacerbate traffic jams during the busy morning and evening hours. To further ease the situation, parking has been prohibited on both main and internal roads in the area. However, vehicles providing essential services will be exempted from this restriction, as stated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Additionally, a new parking ban has been imposed within a 50-metre radius of the McDonald’s restaurant on Sinhagad Road. This measure is intended to keep the area clear for smoother traffic flow.
Deputy Commissioner Zende has encouraged citizens with any objections or suggestions regarding these measures to submit them in writing to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, located at Yerawada, Golf Club Road.
