Pune: The Chandan Nagar police have solved two theft cases involving a housemaid, leading to the arrest of a woman accused of stealing gold jewelry and cash from two residences.
A 52-year-old Vadgaon Sheri resident filed a complaint at Chandan Nagar Police Station, resulting in the arrest of the suspect, identified as Rutuja Rajesh Surushe, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri.
According to police reports, the complainant had traveled to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for work between February 17 and February 25. During her absence, her housemaid, Rutuja Surushe, allegedly stole gold jewelry and cash from a cupboard in the bedroom. Upon her return, the victim discovered the theft and immediately lodged a complaint with the police.
Following an investigation, authorities detained Surushe, who later confessed to stealing 27.5 grams of gold jewelry from the complainant’s house. Further questioning revealed her involvement in another burglary at a different residence.
A second complaint had been registered by a 35-year-old man from Mundhwa Road, Kharadi, regarding a theft at his home. The investigation uncovered that Surushe had stolen 60 grams of gold jewelry and ₹5,500 in cash between January 15 and February 25, totaling a loss of ₹3,15,500.
During the operation, police recovered 77.5 grams of stolen gold jewelry, ₹5,500 in cash, and a moped from the accused.
The case was cracked under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav and Assistant Commissioner Pranjali Sonawane. Senior Police Inspector Seema Dhakane, along with Assistant Inspector Prashant Mane, Sub-Inspectors Ashwini Patil and Laxman Navghane, and police constables Kalsait, Girme, and Kakade, played key roles in the investigation.
