Pune: The Wanawadi Police have registered a case against a property owner for failing to comply with a legal mandate to report tenant information, a requirement under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The move is part of an ongoing initiative by Pune Police aimed at improving public safety and preventing illegal activities.
This action comes in response to a citywide order issued by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, directing all landlords and employers to submit details of tenants and employees to their respective local police stations. The directive falls under Section 163(3) of the BNSS, introduced to bolster security measures in residential and commercial areas.
During a routine verification operation in the Wanawadi area, police discovered that a resident of Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar, had rented out accommodation without notifying authorities, as legally required. Upon being questioned, the landlord admitted to failing to provide the necessary tenant information.
As a result, a case was filed under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Wanawadi Police Station.
“This isn’t just a procedural requirement—it’s an essential step for public safety. Ignoring it will lead to legal action,” a police official warned, urging all landlords and employers to comply with the regulation.
The inspection and case registration were conducted under the guidance of DCP (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde and ACP Dhanyakumar Ghodse. Police Sub-Inspector Sapna Solanke led the team on the ground, supported by personnel Jyotiba Kurale, Pradeep Garje, Utreshwar Dhas, and Pardhi.
