Pune: A young man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by District Sessions Judge B.P. Kshirsagar for the murder of his colleague, who was asleep at the time. The murder stemmed from an old dispute between the two. The court also imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on the accused, directing that the amount be given to the mother of the murdered man. If the fine is not paid, the accused will have to serve an additional month in jail.
The accused has been identified as Suraj Sunil Phalke (27), a resident of Lakshminagar, Kondhwa Budruk. The victim has been identified as Amol Khadke. Suraj and Amol both worked at a private company in Kondhwa. The two had a disagreement at work. On October 26, 2021, Suraj struck Amol on the head with an iron rod while Amol was asleep at the company. Amol suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital by colleagues, but he succumbed to his injuries before receiving treatment.
A murder case was registered at the Kondhwa Police Station, and Suraj was arrested. The investigation was conducted by then Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Madhale, who filed the charge sheet against Suraj.
During the trial, Assistant Public Prosecutor Rajesh Kawedia represented the government, and Assistant Police Constables Mahesh Jagtap and Mane assisted in the court proceedings. The court, considering the evidence and witness testimony, sentenced Suraj to life imprisonment and imposed a ₹20,000 fine. The fine will be paid to Suraj’s mother. If the fine is not paid, Suraj will face an additional month in jail.
Police Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde has approved a reward of ₹10,000 for Investigating Officer Sandeep Madhale, Assistant Constable Jagtap, and Constable Mane for their work on this case.
