Pune : In a moving display of bravery and compassion, Dashrath Talewad was felicitated by the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Kondhwa-Yeolewadi ward office for his courageous act of saving a young woman from drowning in Peshwe Lake, Katraj.
The incident took place on the morning of April 19, when a woman, in an apparent suicide attempt, jumped into the lake. As nearby citizens and a security guard raised an alarm, Talewad—who happened to be passing by on his way to work—acted without hesitation. Risking his own safety, he jumped into the water and managed to pull the woman out, ultimately saving her life.
To honour this selfless act, Assistant Commissioner Laxman Kadbane held a felicitation ceremony on April 21 at the local zonal office. Talewad, accompanied by his wife, was presented with a certificate of appreciation and an eco-friendly potted plant by Dr Datta Kohinkar.
In a time when many people tend to record videos or avoid involvement during emergencies, Dashrath Talewad’s response was an inspiring exception. His quick thinking and fearless action were not only life-saving but also a reflection of the humanity that still exists in society.
Talewad’s heroic act serves as a powerful reminder that courage and kindness can emerge even in the most unexpected moments.
