Mumbai: Loud music after 10 has once again sparked a public debate in Mumbai after actor Sushant Singh raised a late-night noise complaint on his official social media handle, questioning whether the violation of sound rules is being ignored.

Singh shared a video late at night, stating that a rooftop restaurant named Trove9, located next to his residential building, continued playing loud music even after 10:40 pm. In his post, the actor directly asked: “Is this legal?”—bringing renewed attention to the enforcement of noise pollution laws.

According to existing Mumbai regulations, amplified music is prohibited after 10 pm unless special permission is granted. Despite this, residents across the city frequently complain about loud music after 10, especially from rooftop bars and late-night establishments.

Following Singh’s post, several citizens echoed similar experiences online. Many questioned whether political backing or administrative indifference allows such venues to operate unchecked. Some also raised concerns about whether police support exists for late-night bars violating sound norms.

Residents living near Trove9 reported repeated disturbances at night. Families and senior citizens said sleep disruption has become routine. Moviegoers and pedestrians also described discomfort and fear during late hours due to loud music and aggressive crowds.

Urban policy experts say selective enforcement weakens public trust. They stressed that consistent action against loud music after 10 is essential to protect citizens’ rights. Activists demanded surprise inspections, decibel monitoring, and transparent disclosure of permissions granted to bars.

So far, civic authorities have not issued a detailed response. However, the issue has reopened a larger conversation on nightlife regulation versus residential peace.

As Mumbai continues to grow as a 24/7 city, loud music after 10 remains a crucial test of law enforcement, governance, and civic balance—one now firmly pushed into the spotlight by actor Sushant Singh’s social media complaint.
