Pune: A 25-year-old woman from Assam was lured to Pune under the pretext of marriage and later sold for ₹5 lakh to a brothel in the Budhwar Peth area. The incident has led to a case being registered at Faraskhana Police Station against four individuals, including an unidentified police officer.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, the accused, Shafiul Abul Nasoor Wahid Alam (a resident of Assam), deceived her by pretending to be in love and promising marriage. In January, he brought her from Assam to Pune and sold her to a brothel in Budhwar Peth for ₹5 lakh.
Subsequently, two local handlers, Papa Sheikh and Adhura Shiva Kamli (both residents of Budhwar Peth), reportedly forced her into prostitution through intimidation and threats. The survivor also alleged in her complaint that a police officer known to the traffickers sexually assaulted her and committed unnatural acts.
After enduring months of abuse and captivity, the woman finally managed to escape and approached the police for help. A case has been filed under the Prevention of Immoral Traffic Act (PITA). Inspector (Crime) Ajit Jadhav is leading the investigation.
