Pune: Maharashtra has decided to cancel the Republic Day holiday for schools, replacing it with a full day of patriotic activities. Instead of the traditional day off following the flag-hoisting ceremony, students will now participate in various events designed to foster national pride.
The state’s school education department issued a circular on Tuesday, directing both government and private schools to organize a series of competitions and activities centered around patriotic themes. The goal is to inspire a sense of pride in India’s history, culture, and future among students.
“Starting from January 26, 2025, Republic Day will be celebrated across all schools in Maharashtra, with a range of activities aimed at promoting national pride,” the circular states. This initiative emphasizes the importance of students connecting more deeply with the significance of the day.
