Mumbai: Maharashtra recorded 66 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with nearly half of the fresh infections reported from Mumbai alone, which logged 31 cases, according to health department officials.
Pune followed with 18 new cases, while other districts reported single-digit figures: Thane (7), Navi Mumbai (4), Pimpri Chinchwad (3), Nagpur (2), and Sangli (1). The overall number of active COVID-19 cases in the state stood at 210 on Monday, May 26, 2025, with 154 new infections recorded during the previous week, from May 19 onward.
Nationwide, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s dashboard showed 1,010 active COVID-19 cases as of May 26. Kerala leads with 430 active infections. The recent uptick in vigilance comes in response to rising case numbers in regions like Singapore and Hong Kong. Health experts attribute the current surge to the JN.1 variant and its sub-lineages, all part of the Omicron group. The Union Health Ministry has reiterated that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and remains prepared to safeguard public health through proactive measures.
