Maharashtra: The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has achieved another major milestone with more than 50,000 real estate agents now registered under its framework. This follows the earlier landmark of over 50,000 real estate projects being registered, further establishing Maharashtra as a frontrunner in regulated real estate practices.
Leading this count is the Konkan region, which includes the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), boasting 21,050 registered agents. The Pune region follows with 8,205 agents, while other regions like Nagpur (1,504), North Maharashtra (490), Sambhajinagar (343), and Amravati (237) show comparatively smaller, but significant participation.
Interestingly, MahaRERA’s influence extends beyond state boundaries. Given the dominance of MMR and Pune in India’s realty landscape, agents from over 150 cities outside Maharashtra—such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Patna, and others—have also registered. Their involvement underscores their integral role in bridging the gap between developers and prospective homebuyers.
Of the 50,673 agents registered with MahaRERA so far, 31,980 remain actively licensed, while 18,693 have been de-registered. Reasons for de-registration include failure to renew licenses or lack of mandatory certification.
Real estate agents, or consultants, play a crucial role in the property-buying journey. Often, they are the first point of contact for homebuyers and are expected to provide essential regulatory information related to the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. These include concepts such as the Model Sale Agreement, Defect Liability Period, Carpet Area, and the Allotment Letter. Such knowledge enables transparency and informed decision-making during property transactions.
In view of this, MahaRERA has mandated that all agents undergo formal training and certification to ensure consistent service standards. Those who have not complied with this requirement have had their registrations revoked.
