Pune: A major water pipeline from Khadakwasla Dam to the water purification center has been broken since Saturday, resulting in the wastage of millions of liters of water. Despite a citizen’s complaint highlighting the issue, municipal officials have indicated that the necessary repairs will only be carried out after the holiday, citing Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti as the reason for the delay.
The broken pipeline, which runs through the riverbed, has 27 air valves, one of which has broken, allowing water to flow wastefully. The issue was reported by an alert citizen who noticed the water wastage and raised a complaint with the municipal corporation. However, officials informed the complainant that due to the holiday on Monday, repairs would be addressed only once the employees returned to work.
Activist Smita Pathak mentioned that this air valve had previously been damaged as well, leading to similar water wastage in the past. As a result of the ongoing issue and the holiday delays, millions of liters of water have been wasted over the past three days.
While the citizens continue to face the consequences of the broken pipeline, the municipal corporation has attributed the delay in repairs to the holiday, leaving residents frustrated and concerned about the ongoing water wastage.
