Pune: A case has been registered at Khadak Police Station against a man for allegedly defaming the police force by making false claims about fabricated criminal charges, spreading misinformation on social media, and misleading the public.
The accused has been identified as Lalit Satyawan Sasane, a resident of Bhavani Peth and Dhankawadi. The complaint was filed by Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan of Khadak Police Station.
According to police reports, on June 8 around 3:30 PM, Sasane gathered a group of people in the Lohiyanagar area and falsely alleged that the police had registered fake cases against him. In a further attempt to mislead the public, he collected forged signatures from attendees and created a fabricated memorandum based on those claims.
The accused also allegedly disseminated false information through social media, repeatedly stating that fake cases had been registered against him by the complainant. Police say this was an effort to create public misunderstanding, mislead citizens, and damage the reputation of the police force.
Additionally, Sasane reportedly tried to exert pressure on the complainant by falsely informing the Dial 112 emergency helpline and junior police staff that he was being followed by the complainant.
Following these actions, a case was formally registered against Sasane under relevant sections for defamation and spreading false information. The investigation is currently being led by Inspector Londhe.
