Pimpri Chinchwad: In a shocking incident that has left the community outraged, a young man’s left palm was severed and his right palm severely injured in a brutal attack carried out by his neighbour and two accomplices. Despite the severity of the crime, all three accused were granted bail within a day, triggering protests by the victim’s family outside the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner’s office.
According to the Wakad police, the accused — Rohan Nimaj, Shubham Pawar, and Prashant Sakat — lured Rahul Kanaghare, who resides next door to Rohan, to Laxmibai Barne Udyan in Thergaon under false pretenses. Once there, Shubham and Prashant held Rahul while Rohan struck him on the head with a sharp weapon. To shield himself, Rahul raised his hands — his left palm was severed completely and his right palm was partially cut.
“We had registered a case of attempt to murder and argued strongly for police custody,” a Wakad police official stated. “However, under the new law, the court granted them bail.”
Rahul’s outraged relatives gathered outside the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner’s office to demand immediate action. Responding to their protests, Wakad police assured them that they would move the court again to seek permission to re-arrest the accused.
With the police preparing their legal case, questions linger over whether the accused will remain at large or abscond before the police can secure their re-arrest. The incident has ignited debate on the impact of new legal provisions and their consequences in serious crimes.
