Mumbai : In a major change to this year’s centralized admission process for Class 11 (FYJC), the Maharashtra State Education Department has issued a new directive stating that only students who have scored at least 175 marks in their top five subjects in the SSC board exam will be eligible for a seat in the first round of admissions. This change, which comes just days ahead of the first merit list release, will affect thousands of students across the state.

The notification, issued in the form of an official circular, clarifies that students scoring less than 175 marks across five core subjects will be disqualified from the first CAP round. These students can still appear for the supplementary examination, and if they manage to score 175 or more, they will be eligible to participate in the CAP round that is active at the time of their result declaration.

This decision comes at a time when the FYJC admissions have already faced delays and adjustments due to technical and operational issues. While admissions under management and other quota categories are being handled separately, the first merit list is now set to be released on June 26, followed by admissions under Round 1 from June 27 onwards.

Despite the fact that all students were allowed to register for CAP, this new rule imposes an academic threshold that will determine eligibility for the first allotment. According to department officials, the “Best of Five” criterion has now been formally adopted, with 175 marks serving as the minimum benchmark to proceed through the first round.

To make the process more transparent, the student login interface has also undergone significant updates. Students will now see new tabs such as Allotment List, Vacancy Status, Cut-Off List, and more. Additionally, the system will now clearly show: The student’s selected preference list. Allotment outcome. Reasons for rejection or non-selection. Document upload status and overall admission timeline

Schools and junior colleges will also see a revamped portal with three key options: Confirm Admission, Cancel Admission, and Print Admission Letter. These features will become active once the first CAP round is declared. Colleges will be required to complete admissions and document verification for the first round from June 26 to July 3. Once the merit-based allotment is completed, students will also be able to download their official admission letters directly.

As per the data released by the department, this year’s CAP process has seen a massive response from across Maharashtra:

Total Junior Colleges: 9,435
Student Registrations: 12,71,201
Overall Admission Capacity: 21,23,720
CAP Admission Capacity: 16,60,084
Reserved Quota Seats: 4,63,636
Admissions Completed via Quota: 60,487
This rule, while potentially disappointing to some, has been introduced to streamline the process, maintain a uniform standard for admissions, and reduce confusion in the early rounds of seat allocation. It also signals the department’s focus on academic performance as a key eligibility factor right from the outset.
