Pune: City witnessed a series of violent clashes and confrontations during the Dhulivandan festivities, with disputes over coloring and past grievances leading to tension across the city. Authorities reported 20 cases registered in various police stations, highlighting concerns over public safety during the celebrations. While no fatalities were reported, several individuals sustained serious injuries.
Youth Attacked Post-Holi
In Gultekdi, a group of seven to eight youths attacked two others using wooden sticks and bamboos. The victims suffered severe injuries but survived the assault. Keshav Anil Shivsharan (20) lodged a complaint at the Swargate Police Station, resulting in a case against Rohit Singh, Darshan Sutar, Sanket, and three unidentified individuals. One suspect has been arrested, while others remain at large.
In retaliation, Rohit Singh filed a counter-complaint against Amay Sheikhapure, Sachin Khude, Sagar Kadam, Santosh Kamble, and others. Three individuals have been arrested, with several suspects still evading authorities.
Dispute Leads to Serious Injury in Wagholi
A trivial altercation over comments during Dhulivandan escalated into violence when Akash Amrit Katke (25) was assaulted with iron bars and stones. The Wagholi police have arrested Suraj Raju Jadhav (21) and Kesh Dashrath Kusalkar (23) in connection with the attack.
Girl and Siblings Attacked in Yerwada
At Bharatiya Samaj Seva Mitra Mandal Chowk, a girl and her siblings were brutally beaten with stones and iron rods. The victims sustained severe injuries. Based on a complaint by Ashwini Sanjay Matang (30), cases have been registered against Prem Sasane, Afan Sheikh, Ayan Sheikh, Ketan Gade, Gudya, and Yash Patil.
Assault in Lohegaon
In Khandve Nagar, Lohegaon, a 20-year-old youth was attacked by a group of four to five individuals without any apparent provocation. A complaint filed by Roshan Lala Gawle resulted in a case against Akash Waikar, Sami Ahire, Ritik Magar, and three others. Counter-complaints have also been filed, though no arrests have been made yet.
Stabbing Incident in Hadapsar
A 24-year-old youth, Vishal Sanjay Mhaske, was assaulted by a group of 15-16 individuals and stabbed multiple times with an iron weapon while returning home. The Hadapsar police have registered a case against Ganesh Shinde, Nikhil Gawli, Kartik Kondhe, Ganesh Chinchule, Vaibhav Kare, and others.
Attack During Dhulwad Program in Mundhwa
During a Dhulwad program in Mundhwa, Ankit Mankeshwar Singh (26) was assaulted with sticks for asking participants to vacate the stage. Cases have been filed against Prasad Gaikwad, Aditya Kodre, Yash Jagtap, Yuvraj Gaikwad, and several others.
Assault with Bamboo Stick in Lohianagar
In Lohianagar, a man was beaten with a bamboo stick for not stopping when called. Khadak police have registered a case against Rohan Dattu Shendge.
Dispute Over Colors in Katraj
A 21-year-old youth, Rohit Bhagwan Patil, was seriously injured after being struck with an iron bar and stone on his head and shoulder over a coloring dispute. The Ambegaon police registered a case against Nilesh Satpute and Maharaj alias Pappu Shinde.
Assault Over Minor Dispute in Sahakarnagar
A 19-year-old youth, Kumar Devendra, was seriously injured after being struck with a cement block over a minor altercation related to stopping his car during the Dhulwad festivities on Pune-Satara Road. A case has been registered against Prem Dhaware, Sonu Dedhe alias Watya, and an unidentified person.
Youth Attacked with Coyote in Kothrud
In Kothrud, Avinash Deepak Jadhav (28) suffered severe injuries after being attacked with a coyote from behind during a Holi altercation. The police have registered a case against Chetan Chandrakant Pawar (30) and his friend Sambata.
Clash in Parvati Janata Colony
A dispute related to Holi celebrations in Parvati Janata Colony left Sumit Gaikwad (26) with serious injuries after being hit with a floor tile and a brick. Cases have been registered against Aditya Radhairi and Nikhil Radhairi.
Widespread Reports of Clashes
Similar incidents of violence and altercations were also reported at police stations in Chatu, Shrungi, Khadki, Yerawada, Chandannagar, Market Yard, Kondhwa, Hadapsar, Kalepadal, and Mundhwa.
Authorities have initiated thorough investigations and are urging the public to maintain peace during festive celebrations. The police have assured strict action against those found guilty of inciting violence.
