Pune: Senior IAS officer and former Pune District Collector, Naval Kishore Ram, has been appointed as the new Municipal Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). He will officially take charge on May 31, following the retirement of the current commissioner, Dr. Rajendra Bhosale. Prior to this, Ram served as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
According to the official order, Naval Kishore Ram is scheduled to assume charge from Dr. Bhosale on the afternoon of May 31.
An officer from the 2008 Maharashtra cadre, Ram hails from Champaran in Bihar. His first posting was in Nanded after becoming an IAS officer. He has since served in key positions including CEO of Yavatmal Zilla Parishad and District Collector of Beed and Aurangabad. He gained prominence during his tenure in Aurangabad, particularly for handling the city’s waste management crisis. In April 2018, he was appointed as the District Collector of Pune.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Naval Kishore Ram played a crucial role as Pune’s District Collector. Under his leadership, coordinated efforts were launched across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas, resulting in a recovery rate of around 64%.
His administrative acumen was recognized at the national level, and in 2020, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.
With Dr. Rajendra Bhosale set to retire on May 31, the post of Municipal Commissioner will become vacant, and Naval Kishore Ram has now been chosen to fill this key administrative position. The order for his appointment was issued by Additional Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar from the General Administration Department.
