Pune: In a dramatic turn of events during the revered Shri Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi procession in Alandi, a 40-year-old devotee from Yavatmal, Amol Tukaram Rathod, was swept away by the strong currents of the Indrayani River on Thursday. Thanks to the swift response of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Rathod was rescued in time, averting a potential tragedy.
According to reports, Rathod had entered the river to take a holy dip as part of the palkhi rituals. However, he misjudged the water’s depth and the force of the current, causing him to lose balance and be carried away.
Alert devotees and locals quickly noticed the situation and raised an alarm. The NDRF was informed immediately and wasted no time in launching a rescue operation. Within minutes, trained personnel reached the spot and successfully pulled Rathod out of the river.
The timely and efficient action of the NDRF team was met with widespread appreciation from Warkaris and devotees present at the scene. The crowd heaved a collective sigh of relief as Rathod was brought to safety.
