Pune: Veva Art is set to host the ‘New Wave Art Initiative’ (NWAI), a distinctive exhibition designed to showcase the creativity of emerging artists from a variety of backgrounds. The event will take place at The Box in Erandwane from Friday, April 11 to Sunday, April 13.
The exhibition, which has been conceptualized by Malavika Gaur and Jehan Kothary, aims to break down barriers within the art community, offering an inclusive platform for both undiscovered and established artists. The initiative is particularly focused on bringing together artists from different sectors, including those from the defense forces, civil services, and corporate sectors.
On April 11, the exhibition will be open exclusively for invitees from 5 PM to 8 PM, while on April 12 and 13, it will be open to the public from 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission is free for all attendees.
Jehan Kothary, Co-Founder of Veva Art, expressed his excitement about the initiative, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce the New Wave Art Initiative, which reflects our commitment to promoting emerging artists. This platform brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds, including army, air force, and navy personnel, as well as corporate professionals and artists from various institutions.”
After a successful exhibition in Delhi last year, Malavika Gaur, who is also married to a serving Air Force officer, emphasized the importance of showcasing diverse artistic voices. “This initiative celebrates diversity in the arts by showcasing the talents of artists from defense forces and civil services. We’ve received overwhelming interest from over 1200 artists in the past eight months, all eager to be part of this unique opportunity,” she said.
The exhibition will be curated by renowned artist Raju Sutar, who highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “The New Wave Art Initiative celebrates the creativity, resilience, and diversity of its participants. It has been truly inspiring to work with these artists, as their distinct perspectives add a fresh and powerful narrative to contemporary art.”
The exhibition will feature artworks from over 40 artists, including those from India’s defense forces, bringing their powerful personal stories and experiences to life through art.
The opening ceremony will take place on April 11 at 5 PM, with access limited to invitees, while the public can visit on April 12 and 13.
