Pimpri Chinchwad: PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh has approved several key infrastructure projects, including the concretisation of major roads in Tathawade and Wakad, as well as the construction of a new fire station in Akurdi. These decisions were finalized during the standing committee meeting held on Tuesday at the civic body’s headquarters.
Road Concretisation Projects
As part of the road development initiative, the 24-metre DP Road from Madhuban Hotel to Indira Road (1,420 metres long), and the 18-metre DP Road from Silver Spoon Hotel to Indira Road (1,120 metres long) will be concretised. Additionally, the 18-metre-wide connecting road up to Wakad limits will undergo similar work.
The total budget for this project is Rs 58.45 crore, with a completion timeline of 30 months. The road improvements will feature safe pedestrian pathways, designated parking spaces, and a rainwater drainage system. Provisions for a road divider and a cycle track are also included to ease traffic flow and promote eco-friendly commuting.
Toilet Maintenance Assigned to Self-Help Groups
Cleaning and maintenance work for public toilets will be entrusted to various self-help groups, including Janhavi Mahila Bachat Gat, Shubhashree Mahila Bachat Gat, and Savitribai Phule Self-Help Women’s Bachat Gat, among others.
Drainage System Upgrades
Improvements to the water drainage network will be carried out in several localities under the Kasarwadi Sewage Treatment Plant’s jurisdiction, including Dighi, Bopkhel, Nigdi Gaothan, Ganganagar, and Akurdi.
Road Resurfacing and Stormwater Works
Hot-mix asphalt resurfacing will be done in areas such as Sector Nos. 7, 10, 11, and 13 in Ward No. 8, Chakrapani Vasahat, and newly acquired roads in Tathawade, Punawale, and Wakad. Stormwater drainage projects will be implemented in Chikhali Anganwadi Road, Sainagar Mamurdi, and Kudalwaadi-Pawarvasti. Stone pitching and resurfacing work will also be carried out in Nevalevasti, while concrete road development has been approved for Pimple Saudagar and Rahatani in Ward No. 28.
New Fire Station for Akurdi
To bolster emergency response capabilities, a new fire station will be built near Hedgewar Bhavan in Akurdi. The project, estimated at Rs 30.64 crore, will take 18 months to complete. The 10-floor facility will accommodate six fire engines and is expected to enhance public safety by enabling quick responses to emergencies.
These decisions are part of PCMC’s continued efforts to enhance infrastructure and public safety across the region.
