Pimpri Chinchwad: A Pimpri-Chinchwad resident was duped of ₹1.09 crore by fraudsters promising high returns through block trading and IPO investments. The scam took place online between December 1 and January 24, with the complainant filing a report at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Cyber Police Station on February 26.
According to the complaint, the victim was contacted by a woman named Rashi Arora, who added them to a WhatsApp group. Rashi, along with an Axis customer executive, persuaded the complainant to invest ₹75.08 lakh in several bank accounts, claiming it was for block trading and IPO purchases. They showed the complainant a supposed profit of ₹2.66 crore on the investment. However, when the victim attempted to withdraw the amount, they were asked for an additional ₹34.39 lakh, representing an 18% fee. After paying the additional amount, the complainant still did not receive the promised returns.
A case has been registered against Rashi Arora, along with eleven bank account holders and nine mobile phone number holders. The investigation is ongoing as the police work to identify and apprehend the accused.
