Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been issued a final notice by the irrigation department to clear its outstanding dues of ₹726 crore or risk phased water supply cuts starting February 25.
Despite previous warnings in January regarding the payment for drawing water from the dam, the civic body failed to act, prompting Khadakwasla Project Executive Engineer S.Y. Kurhade to send the official notice.
“Since 2005, PMC has been lifting 11.5 TMC of water from the Khadakwasla reservoir, accumulating dues of ₹726 crore. If the corporation does not settle the amount, we will gradually reduce the city’s water supply,” Kurhade stated.
The dispute between PMC and the irrigation department has been ongoing for years, with the civic body contesting the additional charges levied by the irrigation department, which it claims are unjustified.
