Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a warning to citizens about fraudulent messages being circulated by cybercriminals, falsely claiming to be from the civic body. These deceptive messages threaten the disconnection of water supply unless pending water meter bills are settled immediately.
A press release from PMC’s Information and Public Relations Office revealed that several residents received these misleading messages between April 14 and 15, 2025. The messages encourage recipients to click on links or make payments through unreliable sources. However, PMC has clarified that these communications are not from its Water Supply Department.
“PMC has not sent any such messages. Citizens should refrain from making payments or engaging in online transactions with unknown numbers or entities, and should avoid clicking on suspicious links,” said Nandkishor Jagtap, Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department.
To help residents with secure transactions, PMC has highlighted its official platforms for water bill inquiries and payments. Residents can use the Virtual Assistant (WhatsApp Chatbot) by messaging 8888251001, or visit the official website at watertax.punecorporation.org for bill details and safe online payments.
For any concerns or clarification, citizens can reach out to the PMC call center at 1800103222, or contact their local meter readers.
