Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has kicked off its annual property tax collection initiative with a strong push toward digitalisation. This year, tax bills are being distributed primarily via SMS and email, making them easily accessible to over 10.5 lakh property owners. Physical copies of the bills are also being delivered citywide—excluding the recently merged 32 villages.
Residents in these newly added areas face uncertainty, as official guidelines regarding property tax assessments are still awaited from the state government. Although the PMC has provisionally generated approximately 4.5 lakh property tax bills for these regions based on existing norms, these will not be sent by post and are currently available only through the online system.
According to PMC’s taxation department chief Pratibha Patil, while digital tools are being fully utilized to streamline the process, tax enforcement in the merged villages is on hold pending legal instructions from the state authorities.
Meanwhile, property owners within the main city limits can begin paying their dues from May 2. Payments can be made either online or at PMC’s designated citizen service centres. The administration has urged citizens to prefer digital transactions to enhance efficiency and ensure timely payments.
