Pune: In a significant breakthrough, Bund Garden Police successfully apprehended two murder suspects who had fled Rajasthan after committing a gruesome crime. The arrested individuals, identified as Sukhidevi Kamlesh Mewad (30) and Ashok Kaluram Rathod (25), both hailing from Sojat City, Pali, Rajasthan, were detained near Jayprakash Garden, close to Pune Station.
The case began when Jetharam Mewad filed a missing person report at Sojat City Police Station regarding his 32-year-old son, Kamlesh Jetharam Mewad. On February 20, 2025, the victim’s body was discovered buried in a farmland pit, and Jetharam identified the remains. This prompted Sojat City Police to register a murder case under IPC Sections 302 and 238(A) against unknown suspects.
The investigation uncovered a shocking revelation—Kamlesh’s wife, Sukhidevi, and her lover, Ashok Rathod, had conspired together to murder the victim. After committing the crime, the duo fled Rajasthan and reportedly sought refuge in Pune. Based on intelligence reports of their possible presence near Pune Railway Station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Smartrana Patil directed Bund Garden Police to take swift action.
Under the guidance of Investigation Officer Swapnil Lohar, along with officers Dnyaneshwar Bade and Dnyaneshwar Gaikwad, the team successfully tracked the suspects hiding near a rickshaw stand at Pune Station. A woman officer was called in to assist with the arrest. Both suspects were brought in for questioning, during which they confessed to their involvement in the murder.
The accused, Sukhidevi and Ashok, are currently in custody at Bundgarden Police Station. Arrangements are being made for their transfer to Sojat City Police for further legal proceedings.
The successful operation was carried out under the leadership of Amitesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Pune City, Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police, Pravin Kumar Patil, Joint Commissioner, Western Region, and Smartrana Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2. The arrest was executed by the police team consisting of Police Sub-Inspector Swapnil Lohar, Pradip Shitole, Saras Salvi, Dnyaneshwar Bade, Manoj Bhokre, and Dnyaneshwar Gaikwad.
