Pune: On Saturday evening, Pune Airport conducted a planned emergency blackout drill from 8:25 PM to 8:45 PM to evaluate its response mechanisms in the event of a power failure or related crisis. The operation involved a complete shutdown of lights and power systems across the airport, prompting staff and emergency teams to initiate safety protocols.
As part of the drill, arriving flights were instructed to remain airborne for 20 to 30 minutes while announcements were made to keep travelers informed and avoid panic. The airport’s management deemed the exercise a success in terms of coordination, communication, and implementation of emergency measures.
Airport Director Santosh Dhoke noted that the simulation served to reinforce strengths and highlight areas requiring improvement. He stated that communication between various departments—airport staff, air traffic control, and airline personnel—was effective. No incidents or safety concerns were reported during the mock exercise.
