Pune: Following an exceptionally hot April—the warmest in 128 years—Pune is now witnessing a drastic shift in weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 48-hour weather alert for the city and its surrounding areas, warning of unseasonal rain, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds.
As per the latest IMD forecast, wind speeds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph are expected to affect Pune and nearby hilly regions. Residents can anticipate cloudy skies, lightning, and bouts of heavy rainfall over the next two days.
On Monday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2°C. Tuesday’s forecast projects similar heat, with the minimum temperature hovering around 22°C. Although the city remains hot, the increased cloud cover and anticipated showers may provide temporary relief from the intense summer heat.
Key localities including Shivajinagar, Pashan, Rajgurunagar, Koregaon, Hadapsar, and the NDA region recorded maximum temperatures in the range of 37–38°C, a pattern expected to persist for the coming days.
Civic authorities have advised citizens to take precautions during adverse weather, avoid venturing outdoors during storms, and stay updated through official alerts for safety.
