Pune: A tragic incident has added to the rising concern over Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in the region. A Chartered Accountant (CA) from the Dhayari area in Pune passed away on Saturday evening after battling GBS while undergoing treatment in Solapur.
The young CA, who had initially started experiencing symptoms of diarrhea on January 11, was traveling with his family to his village in Solapur for a program. As his condition worsened, he was admitted to a private hospital in Solapur, where doctors diagnosed him with Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
Despite being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for five days, the patient, who had been unable to move his arms and legs, showed signs of improvement and was transferred to the general ward on Saturday. However, shortly after, he began having difficulty breathing and tragically passed away.
Doctors treating him confirmed that his condition had stabilized, and he had completed the GBS treatment before his sudden decline. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death.
The CA was employed with a multinational firm in Kharadi and is survived by his wife, two daughters, mother, and brother. His untimely death has deepened the growing anxiety over the rising number of GBS cases affecting the region, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
