Pune: A construction worker died after falling from the fourth floor of an under-construction residential building in the Kalepadal area. Following the incident, the Kalepadal Police have registered a case against three individuals deemed responsible for the accident.
The accused have been identified as Swapnil Vikas Bankar (30, resident of Bhosalenagar, Hadapsar), Raghunath Baban Khopkar (resident of Fatimanagar, Wanwadi), and Santosh Baburao Rathod (30, resident of Shivnerinagar, Kondhwa Khurd). The deceased worker has been identified as Raju Sopan Avchar (43, resident of Adarshanagar, Uruli Devachi, Hadapsar-Saswad Road). A complaint in this matter was filed by Avchar’s son, Krishna (28), at the Kalepadal Police Station.
According to police reports, Raju Avchar was working as a labourer at a residential project under construction behind JSPM College in Kalepadal. On Sunday (April 13), while working on the fourth floor of the building, Avchar lost his balance and fell. He sustained a severe head injury in the fall, which occurred around 3 p.m. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries during medical care.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the police visited the site. Preliminary investigation revealed that the contractor failed to provide Avchar with necessary safety gear such as a helmet and harness, and did not ensure adequate safety measures at the site. As a result, the fatal accident occurred. Accordingly, a case has been registered against the contractor and two others. Police Sub-Inspector Vinayak Gurav is leading the investigation.
