Pune: In a tragic case of domestic violence escalating to murder, a young man who killed his alcoholic brother for constantly harassing their mother has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the District and Sessions Court in Shivajinagar, Pune. The convict was also fined ₹1 lakh, with an additional sentence of three months’ simple imprisonment if the fine is not paid.
The convicted individual has been identified as Nilesh Baban Borkar (31), a resident of Uruli Devachi. The complaint in the case was lodged by his mother, Ratnamala Baban Borkar, at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station.
According to police reports, the victim, Mangesh Baban Borkar, was Nilesh’s brother. Mangesh was unemployed and had a habit of drinking alcohol. Under the influence, he frequently harassed their mother. Despite multiple warnings and attempts by Nilesh to make his brother stop, the situation escalated on January 19, 2020, when Nilesh, in a fit of rage, fatally attacked Mangesh with a heavy grinding stone, striking him on the head.
The police registered a murder case against Nilesh the next day, on January 20, 2020, at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station. Assistant Police Inspector Swapnil Lokhande led the investigation and filed the chargesheet in time.
Additional Public Prosecutor Namdev Tarlagatti represented the state, while Police Constable Lalita Kanawade assisted with court proceedings. In recognition of their efforts, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde awarded a ₹10,000 cash prize each to Constable Kanawade and Investigating Officer Lokhande.
This case marks the sixth conviction in the past four months among cases registered at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station.
