Pune: Pune Metro witnessed an unprecedented surge in ridership on Friday, recording 3.19 lakh commuters as residents chose the metro to navigate the city amid traffic curbs for the annual Palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj from Alandi and Sant Tukaram Maharaj from Akurdi.
With multiple roads across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad closed to ensure the safe and smooth movement of the palkhis, the metro emerged as a convenient and congestion-free mode of transport for thousands of people.
Expressing appreciation for the overwhelming response, Pune Metro took to its official X (formerly Twitter) account to thank commuters for making the metro their travel choice during the festivities.
