Pune: In a swift crackdown on street crime, Pune police arrested two men for assaulting a pedestrian and robbing him of ₹30,000 near Shahu Bank Chowk in Dhankawadi. The incident occurred late on April 9, 2025, near Saiba Tea Stall, when the victim was attacked by two men who approached him in a car.
The suspects pretended to have a misunderstanding with the victim before assaulting him and fleeing with the cash. A case was registered at Sahakarnagar Police Station under Sections 303(2) and 3(5) of the Indian Judicial Code 2023 (G.R. No. 136/2025).
A police team led by Senior Police Inspector Rahul Goud and Police Inspector (Crime) Surekha Chavan quickly launched an investigation and identified the accused as Aslam Ismail Shaikh (21), resident of Navin Mhada, Satwadi, Hadapsar, Saad Akbar Pathan (23), resident of Syednagar, Hadapsar
The duo was apprehended from Galli No. 7A, near Western Bakery in Syednagar. During interrogation, both admitted to the crime. The vehicle used in the robbery was also seized.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Additional Commissioner of Police (Western Region) Mr. Pravin Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Mrs. Smartana Patil, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Swargate Division) Mr. Rahul Aware.
The efficient investigation team included Inspector Sagar Patil, Sub-Inspector Bapu Khutwad, and officers Amol Pawar, Bajrang Pawar, Sagar Sutkar, Kiran Kamble, Yogesh Dhole, Mahesh Bhagat, Amit Padmale, Balaji Kendre, Chandrakant Jadhav, Mahesh Mandlik, and Khandu Shinde.
The police response has been lauded by local citizens, reinforcing confidence in law enforcement and serving as a stern warning to street offenders in the city.
