Pune: Despite generating over ₹15 crore through commercial advertisements in just two years, Pune Railway Station continues to draw criticism from passengers over inadequate amenities and deteriorating infrastructure.
While the station has been increasingly covered with hoardings and LED ad displays, commuters complain that basic facilities — such as clean seating, proper safety, and support for senior citizens and the disabled — remain severely lacking. Many passengers report being forced to sit on the floor due to a shortage of benches, while waiting areas are often overcrowded with beggars and individuals under the influence of alcohol.
Raj Pathare, a traveler en route to Bhopal, expressed his frustration: “Every visit brings more flashy advertisements, but no real change in comfort or convenience for passengers. It’s fine if the railways are earning revenue, but that money should be reinvested to improve the station’s condition.”
Responding to these concerns, railway official Hemant Bahera stated that steps are being taken to improve the situation. “We’ve instructed the Railway Police Force and Government Railway Police to remove drunk individuals and beggars from the premises. Action is also ongoing against unauthorized vendors. A station upgrade is in the pipeline, and improvements will be visible soon,” he assured.
