Pune: The Pune Rural District administration has issued strict orders prohibiting the use of drone cameras without prior approval. Private individuals, event management companies, and professional photographers are now required to inform the local police station at least seven days in advance and secure formal permission from the designated police officer before operating drones.
This move comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of drones near sensitive locations such as religious sites, dams, and central government institutions, where there is a potential threat of surveillance by terrorist groups. Authorities have also received multiple complaints about drones flying at night in Daund, Baramati, and Shirur talukas, causing fear among residents. Furthermore, there are worries that sand mafias might exploit drones for illegal surveillance.
In addition to drones, the ban extends to other airborne devices, including remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, and hot air balloons.
Additional District Magistrate Jyoti Kadam emphasized that any violation of these orders, such as filming with drones without police permission, will invite legal action under Section 233 of the Indian Penal Code.
Citizens and professionals are urged to comply with these regulations to ensure public safety and security across the district.
